Mindfulness Can Help You Slay Your Dragons and Come to Terms with It…
Dear [fname]:
A short snippet from Michael’s Interview:
I was having breakfast with Supercoach, Michael Neill the other day and we got
to talking about our thought-experienced reality among many other things. And I
remembered this great story which came out of his interview for the movie and
wanted to share it with you:
“I had a client once, business client, and he said to me, I think it was two
weeks before the first session and the second session, and he came back for the
second session and said – what did you do to me? I said what do you mean?
He said, I have been biting my nails for 20 years, I have tried hypnosis, I have
tried CBT, I have tried all these things, I am not biting on my nails, I can’t
even get myself to bite my nails, what did you do? I said, well we can agree
that I didn’t do anything because I didn’t know you bit your nails, you didn

“My Thoughts are Just Not Me”

Dear [fname]:
“I think that the best part of the program was just recognizing that my thoughts
are not me, that the thing of really detaching myself from my thoughts and just
becoming more aware of them, I think was just huge. Before it was just very
automatic, kind of just on auto-pilot, right? And letting my thoughts control,
it was really driven a lot, my stress is really a result of my thoughts just
fearing about the future, deadlines, and just a lot of the what-ifs, and it made
me more aware that I was having the thoughts. It was just so much of who I was
that I didn’t even, it just took control of me, but after becoming aware of that
I was able to kind of detach from it and just really focus on the moment and it
became less overwhelming. Say okay, I can only deal with the now and that just
almost muted the worry because I can’t worry about the future.” Yvette Chen,

The Ten Paradoxes of Mindfulness and an interview with
Dan Siegel, M.D.
Dear [fname]:
The ten paradoxes of mindfulness:
Donald Altman and I are working on a new series of books on the ten paradoxes of
mindfulness. In this parable, you’ll follow three travelers on an exotic journey
to find mindfulness. They “accidentally” encounter an unusual mindfulness
instructor on an unforgettable night filled with captivating experiences and ten
significant mindfulness lessons. Along the way, you’ll get your appetite whet
for the next book when they bring their children back to share the experience
and discover a whole new adventure.
Paradox 1: Act. React. But, Never Try
We’re at our best when, instead of swimming against the tide, we go with the
flow. Unfortunately that isn’t always easy. When we are mindful, we become less
likely to be carried away by the riptide of our mindless unconscious reactions.

Mindfulness Improves College Testing Ability
Mindfulness Training Helps College Students
Association for Psychological Science:
As if the stress-relieving, healthifying effects of mindfulness weren’t enough,
a new study shows it could actually help students perform better on tests by
boosting their memory and reading comprehension skills.
The study, published in the journal Psychological Science, shows that
mindfulness training could help college students do better on the verbal
reasoning part of the GRE (Graduate Record Examination, an admissions test
commonly used for graduate school).
“Our results suggest that cultivating mindfulness is an effective and efficient
technique for improving cognitive function, with widereaching consequences,” the
researchers, from the University of California, Santa Barbara, wrote in the
study…

Corporate Mindfulness
Many people think of mindfulness as diametrically opposed to business, but only
until they see the overwhelming evidence of mindfulness’ benefits in all aspects
of business: innovation, productivity, health, collaboration, negotiation, etc.
Many companies that have realized the advantages of mindfulness training
encourage employees to center themselves during the day using various relaxation
techniques. Some businesses even institute mandatory retreats and mindfulness
breaks during the workday.
